LEAGUE HISTORY
2015 Season
The Indiana Women's Flag Football League (IWFFL) was established in 2015 in Indiana, Pennsylvania by Julie Sadler and Kaycee Newell. We began as a women's non-contact flag football league, playing a 5-on-5 game, with modified "backyard" football rules.
The 2015 season began with 4 teams made up of 9 players each. Our 2015 teams were: Cherry Bombs (red), Blue Ballers (blue), Pink Ladies (pink), and Hulkettes (green). The Cherry Bombs came away with the 2015 Golden Tree Cup Championship win with a narrow defeat over the Blue Ballers in double overtime. The Hulkettes took the prize in the "Dead Tree Bowl" against the Pink Ladies (meaning they came in last in the league). |
2016 Season
In 2016 we worked hard to increase the size of our league to 6 teams of 10 full-time players, allowing additional space for 3 subs on each team.
Our 2016 teams were: Cherry Bombs, Blue Ballers, Pink Ladies, Verde Vixens (formerly Hulkettes), Monarch Mavens, and Black Widows. The 4th ranked Black Widows took a hard-earned and surprising victory over the Verde Vixens in the 2016 Golden Tree Cup Championship. The Monarch Mavens took the prize in the Dead Tree Bowl against the Pink Ladies. |
2017 Season
In 2017 we were able to close registration only days after opening it. We filled the league to capacity with 13 players for each of the 6 teams. We also introduced referees into game play to cut down on penalties, injuries, and team disputes. The top-ranked Blue Ballers finally came out victorious over the undefeated Black Widows in the 2017 Golden Tree Cup Championship. The Pink Ladies took the prize in the Dead Tree Bowl against the Monarch Mavens.

2018 Season
In 2018 we expanded the teams to a roster of 14 to allow more women to play in the league. The returning champs, the Blue Ballers, dominated the season, losing only one game. They took on the Verde Vixens in the 2018 Golden Tree Cup Championship and came out victorious, becoming our first ever double Champs! The Monarch Mavens and Pink Ladies fought a hard game, playing for over 2 hours in the Dead Tree Bowl. The Pink Ladies took the victory and the Monarch Mavens took the "prize". We announced at the 2018 Awards Banquet that we will be expanding the league to 8 teams (adding the Silver Sirens and Fightin' Gingers).

Passing of Julie Sadler
Shortly after the 2018 season ended, Julie Sadler was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer. On November 26, 2018, Julie Sadler lost her battle with cancer. We promised to all work together to keep the league going in her honor. She loved the league we built and we're proud to continue the league for her.
WE LOVE YOU, JULIE! |
2019 Season
In 2019, after the tragic loss of our leader, the league rallied together to renew our commitment to building a strong and vibrant women's and youth league. Kaycee Newell took on the role of league President and expanded the league board with the appointment Tara Maruca as Vice President and Jen Quilliam as Secretary. With an unexpected surge of new interest in the league, we expanded the league to 10 teams (130 players). The newly formed Fightin' Gingers took on two-time champions, the Blue Ballers, in the Golden Tree cup, winning 5-1. The Black Widows beat out the Silver Sirens 1-0 in the newly created Silver Sapling Cup (a competition for 3rd/4th place) and the Aqua Nets took home the Dead Tree in a surprise forfeit to the Cherry Bombs in the Dead Tree Bowl.

2020 Season
In 2020 the league added two additional teams, Crimson Cougars and Gold Rushers, and split the league into two divisions: 7v7 Hardcore and 5v5 Softcore. Our top 4 teams (Blue Ballers, Crimson Cougars, Gold Rushers and Fightin Gingers) will compete against each other in the 7v7 Hardcore Division. The remaining 8 teams (Aqua Nets, Black Widows, Cherry Bombs, Monarch Mavens, Pink Ladies, Silver Sirens, Verde Vixens and Violet Femmes) will compete in the 5v5 Softcore Division.
